A Shopify store uses images everywhere: product pages, collection grids, homepage banners. The theme decides much of the layout, but a few sizes work across almost every theme and keep pages fast.
Product images: 2048 × 2048 px
Shopify recommends square 2048 × 2048 px product photos. That is large enough for zoom on product pages while keeping files reasonable.
The most important rule is consistency: use one ratio for every product. Mixed ratios make collection grids uneven, with cards of different heights.
Collection images: 1024 × 1024 px
Collection images appear on collection cards and, in many themes, at the top of the collection page. Square is the safe default. If your theme uses a different card ratio, match that instead.
Slideshow and hero banners: 1920 × 1080 px
Full-width homepage banners depend on the theme, but 1920 × 1080 px works for most of them. Narrow screens crop the sides, so keep headlines and products in the centre.
Mobile hero: 800 × 1200 px
Many themes let you set a separate banner image for phones. A tall 2:3 crop keeps the subject large, instead of shrinking a wide banner into a thin strip.

- Adjust the crop: centre the product, leave even space on all sides.
- Export: JPG for product photos, PNG for logos with transparency. Shopify serves WebP to browsers that support it, so you do not need to convert.

Common Shopify image mistakes
Mixing square and portrait product photos. Collection grids end up with uneven rows. Crop every product to the same ratio.
Uploading 6000 px originals. Huge files slow pages down without looking better. 2048 px is plenty for zoom.
One wide banner for every screen. On phones it becomes a thin strip. Add a mobile image if your theme supports it.
