Format guide

Which Facebook image size should you use?

Each format shows up differently — here's when to use each one.

Feed post

Post Image

1200 × 630 px · 1.91:1

The standard landscape post image. Facebook may crop this slightly on mobile — keep your main subject away from the edges. Square posts (1:1) also perform well in the feed.

Page

Cover Photo

820 × 312 px on desktop

The page banner visible to visitors. Displays at 820×312 on desktop and 640×360 on mobile — design for mobile first and check both views after uploading.

Full-screen

Story

1080 × 1920 px · 9:16

Same full-bleed vertical format as Instagram Stories. The safe zone is the centre 1080×1420 px — UI overlays appear at the top and bottom.

Events

Event Cover

1920 × 1080 px · 16:9

The banner image for Facebook Events. Displayed at 1920×1080 on desktop. Keep key content centred — the image may be cropped differently in event discovery and mobile views.

FAQ

Facebook image size questions.

What is the best image size for a Facebook post?

1200×630 px is the recommended size for a Facebook post image. Facebook also supports square posts at 1080×1080 px, which tend to perform well on mobile. Minimum recommended size is 600×315 px.

What size is a Facebook cover photo?

Facebook page cover photos display at 820×312 px on desktop and 640×360 px on mobile. Upload at 1640×624 px (double resolution) for a sharp result on retina screens.

Why does Facebook crop my image?

Facebook crops images that fall outside the supported aspect ratio range (between 4:5 and 1.91:1 for feed posts). Use our presets to stay within those limits and prevent automatic cropping.
