Which Threads image size should you use?

Each format shows up differently. Here's when to use each one.

Recommended

Portrait Post

1080 × 1350 px · 4:5

Threads shows portrait images at 4:5 and takes up more feed space, similar to Instagram. This is the recommended format for single-image posts for maximum visual presence.

Classic

Square Post

1080 × 1080 px · 1:1

Square is clean and balanced, a reliable default if your content doesn't have a natural portrait orientation. Works particularly well for graphics and product shots.

Wide content

Landscape Post

1080 × 566 px · ~1.91:1

Use for screenshots, panoramic shots, or team photos. Landscape posts appear smaller in the Threads feed than portrait, so reserve this for content where the width is essential.

Identity

Profile Photo

320 × 320 px · 1:1

Threads profile photos are displayed as circles. Upload at 320×320 px for a crisp result (it syncs with your Instagram photo). Keep the subject centred. It's shown very small in comment threads and notifications.

The recommended size is 1080×1350 px (4:5 portrait), which takes up the most vertical space in the feed. Square (1080×1080) and landscape (1080×566) are also supported. Threads follows the same image specs as Instagram.
Yes. Like Instagram (which powers Threads), images are recompressed on upload. Upload the highest quality version of your image (at least 1080 px wide) to ensure the best result after compression.
Largely yes. Threads is built on the same Meta infrastructure as Instagram and supports the same aspect ratios (between 4:5 portrait and 1.91:1 landscape). The same presets you'd use for Instagram will work on Threads.
